Once again we are facing an unconstitutional bill in Maryland that targets the right to boycott. Things are moving fast, but so are we. Our allies at Freedom2Boycott in Maryland have organized a Lobby Night in Annapolis for Monday, February 6. I know this is very late notice, but if you are able to join us in Annapolis, we would love to see you!
We don’t yet have the language of the bill, because it was just filed, but we do know from news reports that it is a brazen attack on the right to boycott, specifically aimed at the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement. Details about the impending bill can be found here. We have already sent a memo to the legislature detailing our concerns.
This is the third year the Maryland Assembly has tried to pass such legislation. In 2015 and 2016, the efforts were thwarted by Maryland activists such as yourself, so let’s carry forward the momentum and defeat this year’s bill, too! You can help do so in the following ways:
- Send an email to your legislators in Annapolis asking that they vote NO. Click here for the email form.
- Join the Freedom2Boycott in Maryland’s Lobby Day this coming Monday, February 6th. Details and information on how to set up an appointment with your legislator can be found here. (Don’t worry about preparing or bringing anything, the Freedom2Boycott coalition has that taken care of, including refreshments.)
I hope you can join us in Annapolis on February 6!
