The U.S. government has a long history of monitoring and entrapping activists and infiltrating and disrupting social justice movements, and the tactic has been adapted and aimed at the Muslim community. To counter these efforts, DDF commissioned artist-activist Christopher Towne to create an engaging graphic novel comic book Manufacturing ‘Terrorists’ that tells the story of the entrapment plot that crushed Occupy Cleveland and an eerily similar plot that sent four Muslim men to jail in Newburgh, NY. Both are classic cases of the FBI ensnaring and using vulnerable youth to discredit a movement on the one hand, or to demonize Muslims and pad faux terrorism stats on the other.

Manufacturing ‘Terrorists’

Part 1 – Occupy Cleveland: The FBI hit on a great strategy to discredit the Occupy movement AND exaggerate the threat of terrorism. The heartbreaking story of five idealistic young men who fell prey to the FBI’s cynical plot to destroy the movement…

Part 2, The Newburgh 4: An FBI informant shows up driving fancy cars and flashing money in the economically depressed town of Newburgh, New York. His goal: find a few vulnerable, desperate men and lure them into a terror plot of his own creation that the FBI can claim to foil.
