On March 22 in Oakland California the “Don’t Spy on Us” concert will be held. Restore the Fourth and Pow Magazine are teaming up to host this music event to fight against government mass surveillance. Restore the Fourth says that the government surveillance is threatening freedom of expression, and fundamental artistic freedom.
Restore the Fourth was created as a response to the Snowden revelations. Its goal is to lobby for privacy protections from the government. It also educates the community about these surveillance issues.
Many musicians will be coming together to fight for this cause. The first is Jimmy Dias. The facebook event says that, “Jimmy Dias combines and integrates his knowledge and experience of the healing arts into his multitude of creative endeavors.”
Jordannah Elizabeth, another artist that will be performing, has a passion for music, fashion, and culture. She also has incredible knowledge in indie, psych, and experimental rock, which makes her a sough after insider in the music industry.
DEAR MANNY will also be performing. “DEAR MANNY is a solo acoustic project for San Franciscan singer-songwriter Mark Nelsen.”
The Spiral Family, another band that will perform, is described as, “one part soaring melody, one part face melting guitar, one part orbiting synth, one part danceable groove and a heavy dose of west coast psychedelia, shaken not stirred. Drink it straight, no chaser.”
Finally there is Coywolf. This band is made up of players from all sorts of musical backgrounds. When their music comes together they “live up to their name.”
There will also be two DJs at the concert as well. The first is Jonathan Cárdenas. The second DJ is the BORDC’s very own Shahid Buttar.
Between the artists and what this event stands for, this even it expected to rock!
