In response to the revised “Executive Order Protecting The Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States” signed today by the President, Bill of Rights Defense Committee/Defending Dissent Foundation Executive Director Sue Udry issued the following statement:
We categorically reject the false premise of this Executive Order: that refugees fleeing war, poverty, and devastation, or people from the six countries included in the ban are inherently dangerous, or that additional vetting is required for our national security. This EO, like the previous one, is motivated by bigotry and prejudice and is simply a Muslim Ban designed to promote a narrative that stigmatizes Muslims in the US and across the globe.
BORDC/DDF calls on elected officials and other leaders to speak out against this executive order and all the policies and programs implemented or promised by this President that target Muslims, including the Muslim registry, the Countering Islamic Extremism program, designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, and increased warrantless surveillance of Mosques.
These policies have nothing to do with national security, but, like Trump’s crackdown on immigrants, protesters, and the media, they are intended to sow divisiveness and fear, weaken civil society, and silence dissent.
