BORDC had the pleasure of being mentioned in one of the best films to cover the recent history of the Patriot Act. (We are mentioned fifteen minutes in.) The film, Washington You’re Fired created by William Lewis, seeks to expose the treason that has stemmed from the Patriot Act.
In the aftermath of 9/11, the original PATRIOT Act was drafted by respected politicians in both parties from the Senate and the House of Representatives. However, the original document was replaced unexpectedly hours before the house vote with a controversial Patriot Act drafted by a self-proclaimed attendant to freedom, Viet Dinn. Not one person would read the US Patriot Act before voting. As a result a scared and helpless Congress blindly signed off on the bill that would invade the lives of every single American.
Washington You’re Fired attempts to show that the US Patriot Act decimates the Bill of Rights and diminishes Americans basic right to privacy. Recognizing their loss of civil liberties under the act, government leaders in individual states across the Nation passed an anti Patriot Act legislation, including the District of Columbia.
The film highlights the determination of the states to disband the Patriot Act and the successful work of our non-profit, the Bill of Rights Defense Committee, as we continuously work in communities across the country to participate in the ongoing national debate about civil liberties. We are honored that William Lewis has chosen to shed light on our organization and encourage citizens to join us in our goal to preserve and restore the basic rights and civil liberties of all United States Citizens guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
